Sisters Empowering Sisters to Advance Retreat Presentation Feedback
Held at the Marriott Virginia Beach on October 9th-12th.
Ambassador Michelle Boone-Thornton was the keynote speaker on Tuesday, October 4th and spoke on "Removing The Mask"
-
The presentation about Removing the Mask by Dr. BT was very well done. She gave insight to when, where and why we wear masks and reasons we consistently hide our authentic selves. She defined mental health and mental illness, which provided insight to the truth and realization that we (culturally) suffer in this area as a collective. She engaged the audience, and most importantly, she gave solutions to how we can uncover the mask and live a more peaceful and healthy life. Thank you for enlightening me. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.

Dr. Michelle Boone -Thornton’s presentation on “Unmasking Mental Health” will educate and inspire anyone who desires to take a deeper look inside. You will leave with an understanding of why people mask and if your maskings. This presentation will make you laugh and maybe even cry, however you will leave with a greater purpose and comprehension on this topic.

From the Removing The Mask of Mental Illness - Zoom: I attended this presentation (Removing The Mask of Mental Illness) on March 26th and did not know what to expect. Well, I'm so happy I participated as Dr. Thornton was just so full of valuable information. It was food for thought as I had no idea of the many masks we wear. Hiding our feelings as we're hurting inside, then to pretend to others that all is well is not healthy. We're not superwomen and should seek the professional services for help in coping with issues. Dr. Thornton is a great presenter who was well prepared in educating the group. She is well trained in her profession and made the session very enjoyable. She was prepared with all her materials that I can use daily.

From the Removing the Mask of Mental Illness - Mt Zion Baptist Church Dover NJ. That you have to be able to show your emotions and seek healing. You can't do it all by yourself; seek necessary help. Excellent! Very knowledgeable

It's true, I order book after book, after book! I love reading and I love supporting my sisters. Well let me tell you about a book that you must get: "Rythms of Rest" by Suzan Johnson Cook. My professor Dr. Boone-Thornton was a contributing writer so, of course, I had to support her. Her revelation is the book really touched me {you'll have to get the book.) The book was so good that I had to send it to congratulate a close friend who just earned her Doctorate so today-I'm ordering.

...My goal was to select speakers that would command the stage, connect with the audience and create a lasting impression. I did just that by having Dr. Michelle Boone-Thornton as a speaker. Her ability to entertain, inform and educate all at the same time was key to the success of my event. She spoke with transparency and conviction allowing each audience member to not only see into her life but to reflect on their own life as well. She challenged them to demand more from themselves and to hold themselves to a higher standard. In the end, Dr. Michelle connected with them on the head level and at the heart level providing strategies for handling stress and tips on improved self-care. Click to Read the complete review.

On Sept. 12th, I had the opportunity to hear you speak in a Virginia Peninsula Community College Human Services class that I sat in on. I am currently a student in the HMS program, and am also the student representative on the advisory board. What touched me the most is when you spoke of the people in the village that you visited and how they seemed so untainted by the worries and cares that our society gets so wrapped up in. Thank you for your time and you have an amazing day!!! I hope to one day get to hear more of your wisdom.

Such an important topic. I know firsthand because Dr. B. T. walked me through my moment, teaching and leading me through the path of self-care. Dr. B. T., not only practices self-care but shares the importance of self-care with her students. I am forever grateful for her guidance in so many areas of my growth.

From the Woman to Woman forum: The unveiling of the mask resonates with me, as we all strive to move in our seasons; knowing when the thriving season will begin once we release the negative masks that bind us. Dr. Boone-Thornton is the consummate speaker; easily engages with her audience, speaking life, truth and honesty to the heart of a woman. Great!

In her book, “Transform Your Reality: Remove the Mask”, Dr. Michelle takes a hands-on approach to, “helping people worldwide release the emotional baggage they’ve been masking for years by living life more abundantly and open to God, who can Refill and Renew them with love and peace, allowing them to fulfill their God-given purpose”. As an educator Dr. Michelle believes that learning is a reciprocal process that creates a natural interactive exchange of ideas, visions, and creativity. As a motivational speaker, Dr. Boone-Thornton has taken her message of unmasking internationally, most recently to Nairobi, Kenya where she received the I Can Change Nations Astell Collins Global Inspiration Award (2022) for recognition of her work as a generation leader with current and aspiring Kenyan business leaders. Dr. Michelle is entrenched in all facets of nurturing the human spirit, particularly in her home state of Virginia where she is certified as (1) a Qualified Mental Health Provider, specializing in child and adolescent services; and, (2) a therapeutic foster parent who trains other foster parents throughout the state.
